Insurance services

As you are probably aware, having Earthquake insurance is a legal requirement in Turkey, and should your property be part of a complex, it is imperative that all apartments carry valid Earthquake insurance. It is also important to note that Earthquake insurance only covers 40% of the property value. A top-up to the full value of your property can be arranged under a Building policy.

Through Aviva Insurance we can arrange your Building, Contents and Earthquake insurance.

We will notify you of renewals due (particularly helpful when renewal dates fall at different times during the year), issue you with a quotation and upon your acceptance, arrange renewals of your insurance policies.

There is some uncertainty on the part of foreign owners as to what type of insurances they should have.

There are basically four policies:

  1. DASK which is the compulsory government earthquake insurance. This only covers 40% of the property value.
  2. The earthquake insurance can be topped up to the full property value under the Building Insurance.
  3. The Building Insurance itself.
  4. Contents Insurance.

Unlike the UK, insurers in Turkey will deduct a value from the purchase price for the land itself, so the amount insured for the Building and Dask will be lower than the purchase price of the property.

As covered in our "Tapu Values", it is important to ensure that you have the correct value declared, as claims under the earthquake and building policies will pay out on the value declared on the tapu.
